undeserving of their fate
I carry around a cup collecting them before it’s too late
I’ve come all this way
to an island off the coast of Denmark
yet the weeding of the garden can wait
I walk a mile to the treeline
and lead the slugs to their escape
my presence so strong
it causes those with the weapons to hesitate
it seems I always have a slug to save
I scrub and scrub and scrub
and still my hands are like the slug
