Our story
Imaginary Gardens is the college’s news and arts journal. As a student-led publication managed by the English Department, it provides an outlet for student journalism and creative works focused on students at the college. As part of an open-access community college, its core values include providing meaningful hands-on, job-based learning for students and creating informational access for student readers. The journal is published year-round online and in a single print compendium edition in the spring semester.
Founded in the mid-1990s, the journal has shifted from a once-a-year print journal featuring only artistic works created by current Pellissippi State students to a thriving online news and arts journal focused on telling the stories of Pellissippi State students and friends of the college.

Schroeder, as her students call her, is an associate professor of English at Pellissippi State Community College.
Emma Harrison
Editor-in-Chief
Emma Harrison is Editor-in-Chief of Imaginary Gardens at Pellissippi State Community College, where she leads editorial direction and development, edits and writes articles, and manages weekly tasks and outreach efforts. She is passionate about leadership, thoughtful storytelling, collaboration, and using creative work to inspire growth and positive change that fosters meaningful connection through publication.
