Across the rolling green hills and through the misty roads, the sun shines on County Kerry, Ireland. The trees sway in the wind, waving hello as I pass by. Adventure calls my name as I take a deep breath of the fresh, clean air.

Deep in the south-west region mountains, I listen. I hear the water rolling upon the shoreline of mountain rocks, interrupted by the distant bleat of a lamb running up the rocky nook. Sun shines on my back as every fiber of my very being takes it in, seizing it to stay deep in my soul. The presence of peace illuminates every surrounding. Lost in reverie and ipseity, I smile, because at last I have found my haven โa place that feels like home.

These are the feelings that accompanied me in late May as I sat on a smooth flat rock on the banks of the pond above Conorโs Pass Waterfall in County Kerry, Ireland. After our pit-stop there, my family and I continued our drive through the mountains, stopping only for the wildest of views on the R650. After about an hour or so, we found ourselves deep in the Dingle Peninsula, on the Wild Atlantic Way.ย

Driving around and exploring the area, we obviously had to stop at the Ancient Bee Hive Huts when we saw the โHold a Baby Lambโ sign painted in bright blue letters. Sweet lambkins sat in a small pen, soaking up the sun just like I was only a few hours ago. Just up on the hill from the baby lambs, the ancient Bee Hive Huts stood still, holding tight to the ground. These strong, capacious rock formations, built in the 12th century, rested in extensive fields full of sheep and traditional stone fences. Inside the huts felt tender despite their rocky appearance.

Hopping back in the car, my family and I continued our drive around the Dingle Peninsula; our next stop was Coumeenoole Beach. Located at the end of the Peninsula, the beach felt as if it were the edge of the earth. The salty air filled my lungs, stinging but soothing, leaving me present in the moment. Faced with the challenge of taking on the cold Atlantic water, I ran in. The rush of the ocean water filled me with a deep sense of adventure that washed away the heaviness of life. Cold but refreshed, I left the ocean feeling a sense of clarity and strength. As I made my way back to our rental car, I thought to myself that this could quite possibly be the best day of my life.

As much as I try to describe it with words, the quiet peace of County Kerry is best seen and felt. With that in mind, I made a video to bring you along with me so you too can gaze in wonder at the monumental cliffs, see the vibrant green hills, and feel a glimpse of the peace I found in Ireland.
