A Thursday in October

October 29, 2025
A Thursday in October
By Amelia Williams, Staff Writer
Outside McWherter | Amelia Williams

I remember a Thursday in October.
A Thursday where I was hit with horrible news.
News that hit me like a million embers,
while I coped with the mental bruise.

I remember that afternoon, on the phone with my mother
Where I screamed and cried till my throat was hoarse.
She said the person driving me home was my father
While I screamed for remorse.

I remember that evening, where I made pretzels.
They were frozen for months, but they tasted okay.
I played games to distract myself, but even then
I wasn’t ever that stable during these hours

I remember that night, that painful night.
I reluctantly got in the shower after a long friendly call,
Where my tears melted into the water,
And I relived the pain all over again.

So just remember,
If you have a Thursday in October,
Maybe wake up on the Friday,
And you’ll see a future, for you, tidy and true.
