Dogwood Arts Festival Returns with Art, Music, and More

Dogwood Arts Festival Returns with Art, Music, and More

By Taylor Marie Albright, Special to the Journal, with Editorโ€™s Note by Patrick Dobyns

The Dogwood Arts Festival is a well-liked annual tradition where people of the community come together to celebrate creativity, music, and local culture. The festival will take place on April 24-26, 2026, at the World’s Fair park, so mark those calendars, because this is one event that you will not want to miss! It will be convenient for a close-by and quick weekend break. The festival has something for everyone: from live music to hands-on activities, the fine arts to the family events.

This year, the beloved event is set to have more than one hundred artists showcasing their talent, performances across two stages, and will offer visitors the opportunity to take part in a local โ€œmaker marketโ€ and interactive workshops. Best of all, especially for college students on a budget, the entire event is free to attend. With all the pressure from school and work, the festival will be the perfect time to relieve your stress and have some fun. Invite a few of your friends and get together to enjoy the best live performances, delicious food, and beautiful pieces of artwork.

To get a good idea of what the event is all about, you can look at how it got its name. Every spring in East Tennessee, dogwood trees bloom across the state. As the event combines many different types of artโ€“ including fine arts, live music, and workshops for attendees to make their own artโ€“ it was named so to bring together these diverse forms of art under a single celebration and showcase the beauty and creativity of the bloom of the dogwood trees.

This event is for all people. There is no age limit nor any kind of person this festival is โ€œmeant for.โ€ The event is constructed to bring people together and for them all to have a good time. People are encouraged to bring their families and friends, and visitors from all over can come to the festival to enjoy it and participate in its activities.

As for my own experience, when I last went, it was the best festival I’d ever attended. The energy of the crowd, different activities, and non-stop music made everything about this event so memorable. One thing I specifically enjoyed about this festival was the hands-on activities. Throughout the event, many people made their own handmade works of art that they could take home. I also enjoyed the wide variety of foods, ranging from local favorites to fun snacks. I loved how the festival kept people engaged, and the culture of everyone involved was great to be around.

Overall, the Dogwood Arts Festival unites people from our community and inspires creativity among its participants. Free admission to the festival, a great variety of entertainment, and a welcoming atmosphere make it a perfect place for having fun, relaxing, and spending a weekend far from school stress.

Note from the Editor:

It is especially important in these times to support your local artists. With the popularity of generative AI, artists are having to work harder and harder to distinguish themselves enough to attract prospective customers. Many of these people struggle to make enough money to make ends meet, and events such as the Dogwood Arts Festival are their best chance to showcase what they can do and really make a name for themselves. Additionally, the workshops are a great way to discover hidden talents that you never imagined you had, as well as a method of refining your craft if you find yourself in need of artistic tips and pointers. With free entrance and a welcoming environment, thereโ€™s honestly no reason not to go and show support for the artistic community of East Tennessee.
