On Thursday, March 26, the Imaginary Gardens team took the opportunity to spread some cheer (and some information about Imaginary Gardens) at Pellissippi State Community College’s annual Spring Fling event. This event was full of good vibes, perfect weather, and community connections that had me leaving school that afternoon with a heart full of gratitude for my college and fellow classmates.
Starting at 10:00 a.m., Spring Fling featured Pellissippi State special music guests, including our very own cartoonist, Evelyn Hawkey, who vibrantly played renditions from the KPOP Demon Hunters soundtrack on the violin. Imaginary Gardens cartoonist Fin Jump joined in on the fun by helping out with the Pellissippi State Art Club, and our photographer, Cadence Cascarelli, could be found wandering around, capturing all the fun memories. The IG table was full of editors including, Professor Anna Matsen-Cantrell, Draven Copeland, Ash Beach, Addison Chrivia, Jacqueline Ayala, and myself, with more staff members stopping by in between classes(Honorary mention to Beach’s corgis, Cheddar and Potato).
Spring Fling is held annually to provide an event for Pellissippi State clubs and organizations, like Imaginary Gardens, to spread awareness and fundraise. Organizations, along with ours, did just that, with a great showing from students and faculty alike.
Tables for each program handed out anything from flyers to a bag of potatoes to grow in your own garden (shoutout to the gardening club)! Imaginary Gardens sold special Spring Fling exclusive bookmarks illustrated by Hawkey, adding a personal touch to our booth.

Lastly, I wanted to sincerely thank everyone for showing up to support not just Imaginary Gardens, but all the campus communities that are involved at Pellissippi State. Your personal involvement is a testament to the college’s mission statement to “[provide] a transformative environment that fosters the academic, social, economic and cultural enrichment of the individual and the community.” To watch fellow students and leaders work together to create a comfortable space that sets those expectations is what reminds me of why I chose Pellissippi State in the first place.
